Broadcast Journalism
stories about people
The broadcast journalism class at Mira Costa High School in Manhattan Beach, CA produces a student run news program that’s played twice a week for the entire school.
Although I was never officially enrolled in the broadcast journalism class, I created the intro for the show and the pilot episodes for a series called "Humans of Mira Costa". Inspired by Brandon Staton's "Humans of New York" blog, each video features students or faculty from Mira Costa High School. The episodes aired after the live show finished and were later posted online.
For my work in both the Mira Costa media arts and broadcast journalism programs I was awarded “Excellence in Cinematography” by the president of the high school. I gave a lecture to a group of high school journalism students at the National High School Journalism Convention in 2016 about how we created the Humans of Mira Costa series and showed examples of our process. At the same convention I won an award for a public service announcement I made called Send about texting and driving.
